11 a.m. – 12 p.m. // closing the loop: fashion and the circular economy
The fashion industry, the second largest polluting in the world, is at a crossroads. Brands are able to produce fashion quickly through cheap petroleum-based fabrics and questionable labor standards, yet there is also a compelling movement driving big industry-wide changes – from biodegradable materials and ethical labor agreements to systemic shifts in how we value materials at every stage. Creating clothing through a circular economy has been a goal for many years – but how close are we? How are new manufacturing technologies and processes changing the game and getting us closer to a closed loop system? What can consumers do to drive change? Ryan Gellert, Amber Valletta, Céline Semaan and Liz Bacelar will discuss all these questions and many, many more.
